STUDENT INSURANCE PROGRAM Policy Code: 4220
Membership in a group accident insurance program will be made available to students each year. In arranging for this insurance, the board will make every reasonable attempt to identify a company offering comprehensive insurance at economical rates. Information on the plan will be made available through the schools.
Purchase of this insurance will constitute an agreement between the student and/or parent and the insurance company, not with the school district. The school district does not assume any contractual responsibility for expenses not covered by insurance. Every student participant in a student activity which requires accident insurance will be required to furnish proof of membership in the student accident insurance program or furnish proof that comparable coverage is carried in another insurance policy.
Student activities requiring student accident insurance coverage or waivers are:
- interscholastic athletic programs;
- intramural athletic programs;
- marching bands;
- activities/groups making trips; and
- other activities designated by the superintendent.
In such programs as career technical education, it will be the responsibility of the instructor to determine that each firm or business providing work-study experience for a student carries appropriate insurance coverage for the protection of the student, or that the student is covered by student accident insurance or has furnished a waiver signed by his/her parent or guardian.
